The mission of the Council is to, “Reduce suicides and provide workshops throughout
the state to make our citizens aware of the early signs of depression and suicide
and how to obtain services.” The vision of the Council is that West Virginia not
lose one citizen to suicide.

The Suicide Prevention Action Network (SPAN USA) is a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated
to preventing suicide through public education and awareness, community action and
federal, state and local grassroots advocacy. The organization was founded in 1996
by Gerald and Elsie Weyrauch of Marietta, Georgia, survivors of the suicide of their
34-year-old physician daughter, Terri. Their goal was to create a way for survivors
of suicide - those who have lost someone to suicide - to transform their grief into
positive action to prevent future tragedies.

The Suicide Prevention Resource Center (SPRC) provides prevention support, training,
and resources to assist organizations and individuals to develop suicide prevention
programs, interventions and policies, and to advance the National Strategy for Suicide
Prevention.
American Association of Suicidology

AAS promotes research, public awareness programs, public education, and training
for professionals and volunteers. In addition, AAS serves as a national clearinghouse
for information on suicide.
American Foundation for Suicide Prevention

The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) is the only national not-for-profit
organization exclusively dedicated to understanding and preventing suicide through
research and education, and to reaching out to people with mood disorders and those
affected by suicide.
NAMI

NAMI (the National Alliance on Mental Illness) is the nation’s largest grassroots
mental health organization dedicated to improving the lives of persons living with
serious mental illness and their families. Dedicated NAMI members, leaders, and
friends work tireless across all levels to meet a shared NAMI mission of support,
education, advocacy, and research for people living with mental illness.
Suicide Awareness/Voices of Recovery

The mission of SAVE is to prevent suicide through public awareness and education,
eliminate stigma and serve as a resource to those touched by suicide. SAVE was started
in 1989 when six suicide survivors (people who have experienced the loss of a loved
one to suicide) met and agreed on the need for an organization. The organization
is comprised mostly of suicide survivors, and people that have suffered from.
