Statistics in America...

· Every 16 minutes someone kills themselves.
· Each day approximately 86 people take their own life.
· At least 30,000 individuals die each year by suicide.
· Suicide is the third leading cause of death for youth ages 15-24 national, but the second leading cause of death in WVa.
· Research shows that in our lifetime 20% of us will have a suicide in our immediate families.
· 60% of us will personally know someone who dies by suicide. 

Statistically, in West Virginia...

· The suicide rate ranks 8th in the nation with an overall suicide rate of 15.7 per 100,000.

· 13% of youth ages 15-24 who completed suicide lived in Kanawha County (1995-2003).

· Kids in our communities are killing themselves by violent means such as shooting and hanging themselves.
